On December 17 and 18, 2022, the AKC Obedience Classic and AKC Juniors Classic Obedience and Rally wereheld in conjunction with the AKC National Championship Presented by Royal Canin in Orlando, Florida. From a combined entry of 240 dogs in the Obedience Classic, one Obedience dog and their handler were crowned in each class. on demand on AKC.tv. The winners in each respective class are:
Novice Class Winner

Open Class Winner
Tinseltown Blue Ice CDX BN, an Australian Shepherd known as “Ice,” owned by Charlotte Gatz of Lester Prairie, MN
Utility Class Winner
Hi-Star Hot Stuff UDX2 OM2 BN RE, a Golden Retriever known as “Flare,” owned by Sally Sherman and Bruce Sherman of Hernando, FL
Masters Class Winner
NOC OTCH12 High Times Shake ‘N Bake UDX8 OGM SH, a Golden Retriever known as “Baker,” owned by Kori Bevis and Christopher Bevis of Cannon Falls, MN
Asked how she was feeling after her win, Kori Bevis says, “Very excited.” She’s been working with 8-year-old “Baker” his whole life; the two also participate in Retriever Hunting Tests, where he obtained a Senior Hunter title. Participation in dog sports has allowed her to deepen her bond with her dog, which she describes as “irreplaceable.”
Baker finished 2022 in fine style. “It has been an amazing year,” Bevis recalls. “Baker also won the National Obedience Championship in July this year, so it’s been an outstanding year.” And more Obedience looks to be on the horizon. “He loves to do it and wants to keep doing it, so I think as long as he wants to, we’ll do it.”
